I used Act 5, back in the late 1990s and loved the software. Later versions were just impossible to use (read very slow) on my cutting edge processor laptops. I just tried the new version hoping that I would be positively surprised. It might have improved in terms of speed, but still much slower than the software was in the late 90s. It is basically too slow to be used on a daily basis. And if you don't use it on a daily basis, the software functionality isn't of much use. So sadly, the advice is still to stay away.

A very cautious word to the wise. Read ALL the reviews on this product before making up your mind. It is one of the worst written programs I have ever purchased. Unfortunately, I was too far committed before I realized this. I have upgraded (and paid for each one!) many times thinking each revision would be a little better. Unfortunately, that was not the case. There are far too many bugs in this program to call it a professional contact database tool. Let the buyer beware!!

B SimmonsI've been using ACT! since 1998 and have purchased and used most all upgrades, including ACT 2009. I'm generally inclined to agree with many of the negative reviews below. ACT! has problems that only seem to be made worse with each new version. So, the big questions is, what reasonably priced contact management software performs better than ACT? I'd like to hear any recommendations.
