Decent sound, November 19, 2009
By
hoopleheadIt's small, seems durable, and has one simple connection, but it's main purpose is to produce sound, and that's where it's lacking. It's not that the sound is poor; it's just not very good (even for mono). But, I imagine it would be good to use with a laptop when giving a presentation (it's portable, and loud enough to hear in a conference room without the sound becoming distorted), so that could be a good use for it. If priced under thirty bucks, it may be worth it for limited purposes. Otherwise, there are much better options (like the JBL On Tour Portable Speaker System, if you can find one).
Great idea ... but what is the intent?, October 30, 2009

I will be honest in that I was excited to review this speaker. I didn't realize at first that its only use is with a USB port. The lack of an audio in was a surprise but that is my fault. That aside it is a very cool product. It has good sound and of course it being a single speaker there are limitations such as stereo sound.
As soon as I plugged it directly into my computer the drivers loaded automatically. I was surprised to find that the speaker did not work with my USB hub. I would like point out I have a external powered hub so the power was available for the speaker.
The sound was full and clear and ad a good range of tones. The speaker was a big improvement to my laptop speakers. I think the best use for the speakers is for a desktop computer that doesn't have the room or need for large speakers. This is clean install device, no external power, no mess.
Cheers,
pat

This is a great little speaker with nice sound and great volume. The Orbit is easy to carry along on trips within my laptops briefcase. A simple looking, but very complex little device.
Personally I am very pleased with my Altec Lansing speaker.

I plugged the speakers in and they worked, even in Vista! Speaker sounds great for its size, much better than my Altec Lansing Laptop Speakers! Easy easy easy!

This is a great product! Unbelievably great sound from such a small unit. Whether I used it for listening to music, a game, or talking to people over the internet, it really delivers for the price. Especially noted is the deep/rich bass (as long as you don't crank it up too high). The traveling case is a nice touch and is definetely a worthwhile purchase if you travel a lot and need a light, very stylish, and quality speaker to bring along to compensate for your laptops built in speakers (mine are a disaster that vibrate the computer when loud). It's also great for large conference rooms as you can position it in the middle of the table and believe it or not, it'll be enough for everyone to hear, without taking up a lot of space.
