Corel Ulead Videostudio 11.5, October 29, 2009

I got this program to extract Movies and TV shows from DVD disc's produced with a DVR and it works very well for this, but the user's manual doesn't do a very good job of explaining how. If you want to do this, you first have to copy the *.VOB file(s) from the DVD disc and rename it with a *.MPG file type extension. After you do this you can edit the commercials out etc. The Movie Maker software works very well for making DVD's from the clips you produce. This software just takes some trial and error to get used to, I think it does a good job for the price.



A reorder, October 15, 2009

I had to reorder this program after I reloaded my OS for the 3rd time, this product stopped working. It would install, but then the Shortcuts and exe are missing. I tried everything. I contacted Corel and they recommended I buy a replacement of which I did.
This replacement(which is the old product here)works well and have no problems with it.
The major problem is with an Upgrade to this Product (VideoStudio x2) and after 2 wks of emails to Corel which have gone unanswered.
The Upgrade Serial Number does not work with this product!! Be aware of Upgrades from Corel. I was emailed that the Product Upgrade applied to the old version that I previously bought last year 11.5. When you go to install the Upgrade, it says its not compatible with this product. Only Verisons 11 and down. Please be aware of this!

Almost a yrs ago I bought this Ulead VideoStudio 11.5 on sale for $27 and I hate it, use it twice to do slide show. Other than that this editing program is not powerful enough to do serious editing in M2ts file. Since then I have bought Sony movie studio platnium 9 = very good and powerful program, have no problem doing editing .m2ts file but it only allowed 4 tracks. I edit my moive with a lot of tracks and I have step up to Sony Vegas Pro 8 and now I got Vegas Pro 9. Vegas pro 8 and Pro 9 are the bomb with unlimited tracks. Love it worth every penny.



Why so slow?, August 4, 2009

So, I thought it would be easy to use to convert our video clips from our camcorder into Facebook-ready format.

First, I opened a file to view. Looked OK, set the mark-out point. Now, how do I move it into the timeline? No obvious way to do so. After looking in vain for an icon that might say "Add to timeline" or something, I decided I had to move it from the thumbnail list into the timeline, which I did.

But now the preview is in low-res, and jerky to boot. I've already noticed how slow the program is to respond to moving of markers - takes 1-2 seconds to respond - but now it's even more noticeable.

Now, how to convert it to a suitable format? No obvious shortcuts for that. There are options to create DVD, Blu-Ray, etc. There's Batch Convert, but you have to select files to convert. Does this mean it'll be trimmed as I want? Dunno. ... Ah, here it is - Share tab, then Create Video File. OK, there are plenty of formats. Good. I select one and watch the low-res, jerky playback while it works. Finally, it converts, without any trouble.

If you've the patience, this program has the usual features such as tracks for effects, titles, audio, overlays, etc. as you would expect, and canned templates for authoring videos, and a good number of output formats. But dang, this thing is slow when you're positioning markers. And this is on a Dell M4400 with 4Gb RAM. Not sure whose fault it is.

I purchased the sofware during a Gold Box special. I didn't get around to installing it until I purchased a new computer. Got the box out, opened the software and found I had bad media. Went to the web site and there is no phone number for support. I filled out an online form, only to be told that media can't be handled online - it requires a call. Still no phone number. I did only chat support and recieved the number. I called spent 30 minutes on the phone only to be told that the system was down, they had my info and would email me later in the day that media had been shipped. While they do have downloadable software I could only do that if I paid for an upgrade.

after a week of no email and no new media I called back. My options - downgrade to 11.0 instead of the 11.5 I paid for or pay to upgrade to the newest version. When I asked for a refund I was told they don't refund from Amazon because AMAZON IS NOT AN AUTHORIZED RETAILER OF THEIR SOFTWARE. I am stuff with software that won't install, no customer service and hours lost on the phone. I would stay away or at least purchase from what they consider an authorized retailer.
