belt clip is an issue, November 21, 2009

It's a decent case but the belt clip is ultimately it's down fall. It will tear away from
the case after repeated use. Its not a cheap belt clip its just not adequately secured
to the case itself. I'm looking around for another case with a belt clip but most
are cheaply made or have other shortcomings. I may have to buy another one
of these.
Streamlined, attractive, and highly functional, November 5, 2009

I don't expect much from my iPod sleeves/covers. I want them to protect my expensive electronics while also allowing me to comfortably use them. If the case is not terribly ugly, that's a bonus.
Well on the least important item, i.e. looks, the DLO hipcase is a real winner. This is an elegant looking case that fits my 160GB classic snug as a bug in a rug. It looks terrific, and the supple leather feels great, too.
But function is more important than form. Thankfully, this case does its job admirably on that count as well. Use some caution when you first slip the iPod into the case, as loose stitching could result in mild marking or scratching (not an issue with mine, thankfully), but once inside your iPod is not going to budge, slide or move an inch. The leather is thick enough on the face and back to provide adequate protection from scratching and minor bumps. Even better, the side leather is thicker and wider than the unit, allowing it to nicely absorb the show of falls. Good protection.
The flip top works fine (some users may find the headphones jack gets in the way, but it hasn't been a problem for me) and access to the click wheel is adequate (though less than perfect). There are openings for both the headphones and charge jack, so once in its case you'll never have to remove the iPod. I like that.
A number of users have reported problems with the hip clip wearing and coming off. Since I don't use the case in that way I can't speak directly to it, so I'd urge potential buyers to scan some other reviews if you plan to wear this on your hip.
All in all, for the price I was very happy with my purchase and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this, with the caveats noted above.
5 years daily use and going strong, November 4, 2009

I am back looking again at this item because after daily use for years the leather cover on the clip has come loose. As I wind the wire twice around the clip I need to reattach the cover so that it does not wear out the wire. (The need to wind the headphone wire was learned from experience with an iPod mini which crashed to a marble floor as the headphones came out when it fell. With this case, even when I don't clip it securely to a belt or waistband, or I bend too much and it comes unclipped, the headphones are not pulled from the iPod when wrapped around the clip. Thus the iPod swings from the headphones rather than hitting the floor.)
The iPod has also fallen in the toilet while in this case, coming loose from the waistband, with no ill effects . . . The only negative to this item is the quality of the leather. But perhaps its being wholly worn out after years of use is not so bad. Overall I cannot rate this highly enough. A more expensive case, if there was one, might hold up better and when this finally cannot be further repaired I will look for one. If I don't find one I will buy another of these. As I don't care what it looks like I have secured the clip cover by stitching it back. It should last a few more years. Still, it is the quality of cheap leather shoes, not good leather shoes. A much better quality is found in Covertec items, but I don't think they make a case for an iPod.

This cover is the only one you'll ever need for your iPod Classic. It fits very nicely, the open/close magnet is just strong enough to ensure an easy one-handed open and close motion and you can recharge/download tunes to your iPod without removing it from this case. The case is subtle and classy.
Big Disappointment, October 19, 2009

Within one month of purchasing this, the belt clip became detached from the case. Would appear that the clip part is not well attached to the metal structure of the case. Bad purchase.
