Drive Failures, October 6, 2009
By

I bought the 1.5 Tb version of this drive based on a favorable review in Photoshop Users Magazine. The drive is very attractive looking, but within two weeks, both of the RAID drives failed. I received a prompt RMA number but it took 9 weeks to get the drive back. The drive failed again as soon as I plugged it in. Do not trust your data to this drive.

I bought this drive as my main backup about a month ago - setup was a breeze, performance is great and it's very quiet.
Can't speak about long-term reliability, but I hear good things.
The only thing I don't like is something I know almost all drives using their own power chord do: it doesn't power down when the computer it's linked to does, requiring me to eject it and turn it off every time I turn off or put to sleep my computer. Otherwise it just keeps running with the little fan blowing - which does get annoying.
However - since I don't know of any other large drives that act otherwise, I can't fault it for that.
If I had to buy a new drive, I'd always get a G-Drive!
2 out 2 failed drives, September 4, 2009

I thought I was buying a high end product but I was mistaken. I have purchased 2 G-Tech G-Raid drives and both have failed. I have a 1TB and a 2TB. The 2 TB has been in for repair 3 times and the 1 TB is still waiting for G-Tech to respond to my support ticket. The support is slow (although when you can reach someone, they are usually very nice). Short story, there are a ton of higher quality drives for much less cost. I have 6 Lacie drives and not one has failed yet. Knock on wood.

G-Tech G-Raids are really the best. Excellent design. Caveat Emptor! If you EVER have to deal with customer service, at G-Tech they are really about the worst you could deal with. Hey Hitachi, clean up your act!
