Ancient technology from a good manufacturer, December 21, 2008

This is not worth [...] bucks as it is outdated. Which planet do Lacie people live on? I have several of their older (and better) USB HD's but this product has a serious flaw - no HDMI output!!! Look for other brands with HDMI if you want state of the art equipment.

I like the design, ease of usage and presentation of this player. However, it is extremely difficult to remove or replace the hard drive. I have a drive that I was using with the Tvix and I just wanted to insert my completed drive - wasn't happening. When I called tech support, I was told, "Yes, you can remove the drive, but we do not recommend it....just find those little screws and remove them." I did not get an answer on where "those little screws" where or exactly how to accomplish this. And I am very experienced with accomplishing this task with other players (Mvix, Tvix, other enclosures)...this was a challenge.
I have the mvix, tvix, LaCinema, MassCool and MediaGate. I rank them, 1 Tvix, 2 Mvix, 3 LaCinema, 4 MassCool and do not waste your money on MediaGate.

I've used it primarily for movies. The quality is very good and haven't had any problems with the interface.

Great as a video player... What I dont really like is the browsing speed, it takes a long time to browse through folders, boring.. But to have the possibility of seeing(videos) and hearing(music) is awesome for the price.

I am completely satisfied with this product. Immediately after receiving it, I hooked it up to my PC (Works exactly like hooking up a USB External Hard Drive) and loaded 12 movies on it.
I then hooked it to the TV with an S-Video (I used the video cable that came with it, but S-Video worked better)and turned on the TV.
At first, I was a little concerned....the setup image was flipping like an old TV from the 70s that needed adjustment. No problem, though...after reading the manual I learned that I just needed to adjust a control that was located on the remote.
VOILA~! LaCinema up and running.
I have watched several movies since receiving the LaCinema and they come through brilliantly and the sound is great. I couldn't be more satisfied.
