very bad product - i uninstalled it, November 17, 2009
By

I just gave this product the ultimate grading. I started the uninstall. It's a very cumbersome product and counter-intuitive. I use Office and Photoshop and AutoCad all day long so I know good from bad software. After quite a bit of trying i just decided its not worth my time. I had been using Pinnacle and they removed some of the features that I have been using when I mistakenly "Upgraded" the software. This product was the one that they had at Best Buy. I just got Roxio and its 10x better.
Movie Edit Pro 15 Plus - Does Not Allow Animated DVD Menus (Errors), November 4, 2009
By
B. Lamont DorrityIn general the user interface is good. Sadly, it is not completely functional. I am not able to burn DVDs with animated menus. Magix support personnel responded by saying: "this is a known issue". In other words, there is no fix at this point in time.
Needs better English language instructions, October 18, 2009

Magix is one of Europe's largest software publishers. They have an interesting line of very competitively priced consumer graphics, music and audio applications. The company tries very hard to turn out a solid product, although some of their releases have been buggy.
Movie Edit Pro 15 Plus tries very hard to be the top-of-the-line consumer video editor and, quite honestly, it comes very close.
The killers are 1) a somewhat less than intuitive interface and 2) poorly translated English help files and manuals.
The Movie Edit Pro (MEP) will take a little time to figure out. In particular, the "Edit Pool", the area you would normally associate with gathering clips is multi-function. Way too multi-function. You can use it to open projects, catalog movies, use it like a rack to hold clips, apply effects, capture YouTube and other videos and much - too much - more. (Amazingly, with all this clutter and multi-functionality, everything works!)
Magix nice enough to supply two small format printed manuals. Unfortunately, the English translation is poor. I wish they had spent the money to hire a more fluent translator.
As a result, learning the program is a very frustrating and time consuming process, far more so than it should be. I am spending a lot of time in trial-and-error learning, which I don't appreciate. However, there are so many features, that I am hoping the extra effort is worthwhile.
In terms of features, Magix is trying to outdo its competition (including the far more expensive products) and including a ton of features. Neuther the Magix website nor the Amazon description, which is taken from the Magix product brochure, does justice to the product. Even though the translation is awful, download the Movie Edit Pro manual from the Magix website before you buy to get a better idea of all this program can do.
So far, Movie Edit Pro 15 Plus has been rock-steady running under Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit, which is more than I can say for Pinnacle and Adobe Premier Elements. Performance is pretty speedy. Magix provides codecs for nearly all the major video formats. One problem with the MP4 codec (which is from a top-of-the line publisher): no documentation. Thus, picking the right format for some portable devices is trial-and-error.
Overall, it it weren't for the poor translation of the very necessary documentation, I'd give this product five-stars. It will take you longer to learn because of the lack of good documentation, but Movie Edit Pro 15 Plus has a lot of features and is very stable. That makes it worthwhile, in my opinion.

PHS '76Wanted some software to use with my Sony external DVD drive/burner.
I have a mini - dvd camcorder and wanted to be able to copy disks to share with family. The software loads quickly and easily and starts nicely. Plenty of demo videos to show you what to do. The instruction booklets are very detailed - and has a supplement book. Almost too much to read. I'm enjoying learning all of the project capabilities this software offers. No crashes yet, no stalls, just does what it says it will do. A good buy.

Compared to other videoediting software Movie Edit pro has:
- best usability
- good tools for sound editing
- tons of presets for 3D-titles, effect etc
- possibilities to create your own effects
- keyframeanimator - animate your own movie
- import all kind of movies(not only Movie Edit Pro)
- choose your desktop as recording source (not only Movie Edit Pro)
- high quality intros/outros
In my opinion it should be the user's choice!
