Cheap and probably a little flimsy (I've only had mine for a week), but it works fine on my iPhone 3G, and the price is right. Pick up a six-pack!
The cable is only 28 inches long when fully-extended, with the spool in the middle. And it's much thinner than most USB cables you've seen, being a 3mm by 1mm ribbon. It locks only when fully retracted or fully extended. As I said: flimsy. It wouldn't surprise me if its average useful life is a few weeks, but again, you can always buy a six-pack. Considering how often I need to charge my battery-eating iPhone, I keep the charger by my bed, and two of these USB cables attached to my home and office computers.

Bought two of these after my cat chewed through the Apple one.
Haven't had any problems with my 3G iPhone.
No complaints.
Highly recommend.

It might not charge as well as the regular iphone charger(in my opinion anyway) and it stretches out about 2+ feet the most when full retracted; However, it is a good and cheap alternative to buy. I bought one for work and leave it there all the time. If I lose it, I wont cry about it. Just like the other reviewer, I suggest to buy more than one, so that you can have one everywhere you go. The cord is retracted, so in a closed position, its very small and truly portable and does the job.

These were very cheap and are much better that the cables from Apple.
The retractability is an excellent plus.
They were so in expensive I wish we had purchased more.
Shipping cost more than the units.
