5.0 Customer Rating I hope this book helps because the software is terrible., September 12, 2009
By Lynn A. Ellsworth (Phoenix, AZ USA)
I don't understand why I was asked to review this book because I never bought it or read it! But I can tell you about its subject.

Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum is so busy offering you ways to make your videos so bad that anyone you show your video to will lynch you that it is almost impossible to get anything reasonable out of it. Sony Vegas Platinum is extremely overloaded with features only a sadist wishing to torture his audience would ever use. The software desperately needs simplified instructions describing how to Start it, Load it, Save it, Burn a DVD, and THEN the instructions could go into multiple ways to be clever and torture your audience with special effects.

IF this book tells you how to Start it, Load it, Save it, and Burn it BEFORE telling you how to use the damn special effects then it is worth getting if you are stuck trying to use Sony software.

I make instructional videos. I need to cram as many video clips (chapters) on one DVD as possible. The people using the DVD want to be able to jump to just the chapter they need and see 3 or 4 minutes of video to refresh their memory. Several times I crammed several clips/chapters together, after a LOT of effort wading through unnecessary special effects, then after waiting for a couple of hours trying to burn a DVD getting a message that my collection was too big for one DVD. My audience uses both TV sets and computers to watch the DVDs.

I bought an iMac with iMovie just to escape from Sony's software. iMovie is better but I still prefer MS Office over iWorks. Each computer has its good features.

Can we pass a law making it illegal for anyone at Sony to write software?

5.0 Customer Rating I like this product!, May 2, 2008

I really like this product. The Sony documentation is not very clear but this CD really gets you going fast.

1.0 Customer Rating Very poor quality, April 10, 2008
By Alan R. Brailsford (Wilmington, NC)
Upon receiving the training kit I attempted to play the "computer formatted" dvd in my pc and was prompted that I should run svms8.exe for best quality. Well I checked both of the disks that came with the kit and the file was no where to be found. I, like the previous reviewer, was unable to find the project files necessary to do anything more than watch someone else use the software. Very disappointed, sent it back to Amazon the second day after receiving it. I would look elsewhere.

3.0 Customer Rating Sony Vegas Essential Training, March 18, 2008
    By David Perry (Tallahassee, FL)
Training was pretty good but didn't really get into anything advanced. I would recommend this training for newbies who have never used Sony Vegas but not for anyone who already knows his way around. Also, the lab files were completely missing from the disc so I couldn't actually do anything but watch the DVD. Overall good for newbies but not advanced enough. I would have rather had a few more chapters of more advanced operations.
