CMOS Sensor Not Good on Camera, October 8, 2009
By
Sharon WarrenI had the camera for about 6 months of it working excellent. The quality is good, the navigation is good, and the touch focus was especially good. But after about 6 months of having the camera, the CMOS sensor started to cause the camera to have a distorted image. It was as if it had a wavy or shaky image. And it was very noticeable. It does not stay, but the only way to make it stop is by letting the camera rest. At first this only happened occasionally. But now, after dealing with it for about 4 months, it happens all the time, after only using for about 5 minutes. It is very time consuming and I am planning to get a new camera.
Once again, the camera does the job with excellent quality. But with the distorted quality, it takes the job forever.

I had waited two weeks for this camera on Back order from Sony. Couldn't take it anymore and purchased from Amazon. VERY Quick delivery of ONE excellent product. I believe there is a newer version of this camera out now, but this one is ABSOLUTELY the perfect match for my small hands. I love the minimal amount of details and knowledge needed to operate this camcorder and produce optimum videos. The pictures are SO clear and the camera is SO easy to use. I recommend this and ANY other products from Sony.

Superb Camera but Suckie Software, December 3, 2008
By
Salvatore DilibertoAs much as I love the appearance, build quality, size and comfort of this unit, I can not give it 5 stars. The only issues that bug me are first and foremost the suckie software. I even tried "Ulead Video 11" after trying over and over to work with the stock software. Unlead (despite what they say) is far too complicated, cumbersome and in many ways not compatible. Further, I hate using the dock to connect to my lap top.
The video picture images are nothing short of amazing.
Overall, the camera is very good once I figure out the software it will be just short of perfect.

I've had this camera for a few months now after upgrading from a tape based Sony pistol-grip style camcorder. Aside from the wacky avchd codec that is not particularly standard, this is a nearly perfect fusion of form and function. I did debate between this and the TG1, but in the end I decided I couldn't live without Nightshot. I don't use it much, but I'm used to having it and I know I would miss it. Get a mini-hdmi -> hdmi cable and the camera works as a terrific player on any hdtv (w/ an hdmi in, of course). Buy with confidence. This is a terrific camera.
