I returned it.  Perfect for what it is, September 15, 2008 By Erik A. Grimm (Minneapolis, MN) This isn't a fast card by any means but it is great! I have been using it for almost a year now and it has performed very well. I have 13 500GB drives and 5 1TB drives running off of it. The 13 drive array is storing backup to disk and is backing up around 1.3 GB/s with software compression.
The draw backs are that it doesn't have any on board memory so if there is a hard power off it needs to recheck the array and you may have lost what was being written to it for that moment. Again this isn't an issue for us because this is not in our production servers this is for backup and I am completely satisfied with its through put on a IBM x365 server. It worked so well I am doing something similar for my other offices for their near line storage.  For PCI and PCI-X, December 9, 2007 By David J. Atkinson (Gaithersburg, MD United States) The Sonnet Tempo SATA X4P is for PCI and PCI-X compatible bus slots only. If you have PCIe (aka PCI Express) then you should look for the Sonnet Tempo SATA E4P. PCI is a 33Mhz Bus, found on older motherboards. If you bus runs at 100 or 133Mhz, then you have PCI-X. As a side note, although PCI-X is backward compatible, that is, you can use a PCI card, it is not recommended since it can slow down your bus and any PCI-X cards you have installed. PCIe is newer and has a different architecture with individual "lanes" that run at 250Mhz each. If you have a PCIe bus, do not look for PCI or PCI-X cards!
I have had this card for a year and although it has worked reliably it was hard initially to get working properly on my Mac Dual Processor G5. My advice is to make sure you carefully match the requirements of your computer's bus, port multiplier card (e.g., the Sonnet Tempo cards), and the external drive enclosure you have selected. Incorrect information from Amazon, August 19, 2006 By Andrea Biscaro (Venezia, Italia) I have not buy yet this board, but I have read a lot that is really good and valuable. My low rate is for the information that Amazon provide on this controller.
May be they don't know that this card can be PCI-X or PCI-express. Amazon have put the name of the card(TEMPO X4P) that is referring at the PCI-X card but the description is about the PCI-Express card (Tempo E4P), in that way is impossible know which card is!!!
As the PCI-X can't not be used on PCI-Express and viceversa is impossible to buy it!!!
I hope that they review soon the description and the code so I and all the people are looking for this card can buy it! |
